ABOUT US

THE COLLEGE PREP MODEL

  • Transition to College is designed after the National College Transition Network College Prep Model. The program also includes mentoring, career exploration, and case management. (http://www.collegetransition.org/home.html)

  • The goal is to enable students to transition successfully into college-level courses, or at the very least, begin their college careers at the upper tier of developmental education.

KEY FEATURES OF THIS MODEL

  • Learning communities include direct instruction to address the gaps between the knowledge and skills required to complete the GED and those needed for success in college.

  • Learning environment that teaches college success skills by simulating a college atmosphere in terms of class format, expectations, scheduling, etc.

  • Counseling and case management.

  • Financial aid and college application assistance.

  • Academic advising.

A TYPICAL TRANSITION TO COLLEGE STUDENT

  • Needs to build person, social, and academic skills for college.

  • Needs to improve English language skills.

  • Needs to develop time management, organization, and learning strategies.

  • Needs guidance and mentoring to build confidence and self-efficacy.

  • Needs to understand and set realistic goals for academics, career, and life.
